The club was founded by students as the Glyn Cricket Club, which formed a football section in 1888.
Glyn Cricket Club (1881): Founded in 1881 by former students of Homerton College.
Eagle Cricket Club (1886): A direct descendant of the original cricket club.
Orient Football Club (1888): Began playing football in 1888.
Clapton Orient (1898): Adopted this name in 1898 before joining the Football League in 1905.
Leyton Orient (1946): Officially adopted after moving to Leyton in 1937 and following WWII.
Orient F.C. (1966): Shortened the name for 21 years due to financial struggles.
Leyton Orient (1987–Present): Reverted to their current name following fan campaigns.
