Bristol City – Interesting Facts
Bristol City Football Club was founded in 1894 as Bristol South End, playing at St. John’s Lane. The club adopted the name Bristol City in 1897 after turning professional.
Original Name: Bristol South End (1894–1897).
Current Name: Bristol City (since 1897).
Merger: In 1900, the club merged with local side Bedminster F.C. (originally founded as Southville in 1887).
Commonly referred to as The Robins (due to their red and white kits) or The Reds.
St John’s Lane (1900–1904): Used when the club was formed by a merger between Bristol South End and Bedminster FC.
Ashton Gate (1904–present): The club’s permanent home, which underwent a major £50m redevelopment in 2016 to reach a 27,000 capacity.
