Doncaster Rovers – Interesting Facts
Doncaster Rovers were founded in 1879 by Albert Jenkins, a fitter at the Great Northern Railway works. The club played its first match under the name on October 3, 1879, following a meeting at the Hall Cross in Doncaster, and later turned professional in 1885.
Doncaster Rovers F.C. has had no previous official names since its founding in 1879. Founded as a “rovers” side, the club has operated under the same title throughout its history.
