Stockport County – Interesting Facts
Stockport County was formed in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers before officially changing its name to Stockport County in 1890.
Stockport County FC was founded in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers. In 1888, the club was briefly known as just Heaton Norris FC before adopting its current name, Stockport County, in 1890 to reflect the town gaining County Borough status.
Stockport County FC’s primary nickname is The Hatters, a title they share with Luton Town. They have also occasionally been referred to as County, the Lilywhites, or simply The Blue & White Army.
Edgeley Park (1902–Present): The club’s current home, where they have played continuously since relocating there. While its name has never officially changed for sponsorship reasons, the stadium is sometimes colloquially referred to by its stand names, such as the Cheadle End or the Danny Bergara Stand.
Green Lane (1889–1902): The club’s first official enclosed ground. Located in Heaton Norris, it was used during the team’s early formative years and their first two seasons in the Football League before they outgrew the venue.
Before moving to Green Lane, the club utilized various local public pitches, most notably the Heaton Norris Recreation Ground.
