AFC Wimbledon- Interesting Facts
AFC Wimbledon was founded on 30 May 2002. The club was established by supporters in response to the Football Association’s decision to allow Wimbledon FC to relocate to Milton Keynes.
AFC Wimbledon (Formed in June 2002 to represent the community of Wimbledon after the original club moved). Therefore, AFC Wimbledon has had no previous names, but it is the fan-owned successor to Wimbledon F.C.

The club, formed in 2002 after the original team relocated to Milton Keynes, proudly identifies with its heritage, including having a “Womble” mascot at their games.
AFC Wimbledon’s current home stadium is Plough Lane (known as the Cherry Red Records Stadium for sponsorship reasons), which opened in November 2020 with a 9,300 capacity. The club previously played at Kingsmeadow from 2002 until 2017.
