Coventry City – Interesting Facts
Coventry City formed as Singers F.C. in 1883 following a general meeting of the Singer Gentleman’s club. They adopted their current name in 1898 and joined the Southern League in 1908, before being selected into the Football League in 1919.

Leicester City
While the club’s name only changed once, it was famously known by the nickname “The Bantams” for many years due to their diminutive stature and fighting spirit early in their history, before being rebranded as “The Sky Blues” in 1962.
Dowells Field (1883–1887): Early home of Singers FC.
Stoke Road (1887–1899): Played here before moving to Highfield Road.
Highfield Road (1899–2005): Long-term home for 106 years.
Coventry Building Society Arena (2005–2013, 2014–2019, 2021–present): Known as Ricoh Arena until 2021.
Sixfields Stadium (2013–2014): Ground-shared with Northampton Town during a rent dispute.
St Andrew’s (2019–2021): Ground-shared with Birmingham City.
Following the purchase of the arena in 2025, the Coventry Building Society Arena is now the officially owned home of the club.
