Swansea City FC was founded in 1912 as Swansea Town, with the professional football club officially coming into existence on June 14, 1912. The club was formed after local enthusiasts gathered at the Royal Hotel on High Street.
Swansea City AFC was founded in 1912 as Swansea Town. The club played under this name until 1969/1970, when it was changed to Swansea City to reflect the town’s elevation to city status
The Swans: A direct shortening of the team name, representing the bird.
The Jacks: This originates from the term “Swansea Jack,” which historically refers to local sailors (“Jack Tars”) or the famous 1930s lifeguard dog named Swansea Jack who saved many lives.

Swansea City AFC has had two primary home stadiums in its history, with the current venue holding two different names. Their historic home was the Vetch Field (1912–2005), which was replaced by the current stadium, known as the Liberty Stadium (2005–2021) and now the Swansea.com Stadium (2021–present)
