Blackburn Rovers – Interesting Facts
Blackburn Rovers were founded on November 5, 1875, by John Lewis and Arthur Constantine. The club was established during a meeting held at the St. Leger Hotel on King William Street, Blackburn
Some early records suggest the founders, often former Blackburn Grammar School pupils, operated briefly under the name Blackburn Grammar School Old Boys before settling on Blackburn Rovers.
Rovers: The most common name, referring to the team’s name, which was a popular term for clubs in the late 19th century.
The Blue and Whites: Refers to the team’s traditional blue and white halved kit.
The Riversiders: Named because of the river that flows behind the Riverside Stand at their home ground, Ewood Park.
The Mighty Blue & Whites: A less common variation highlighting their history, occasionally mentioned in.
Oozehead Ground (1875–1877): The club’s first home, which was essentially farmland.
Pleasington Cricket Ground (1877): Used briefly after moving from Oozehead.
Alexandra Meadows (1877–1881): A cricket pitch used for four years.
Leamington Road (1881–1890): Known as their first purpose-built ground.
