Brentford Football Club was founded on 10 October 1889. The club was established following a meeting of local sports enthusiasts at the Oxford and Cambridge Public House in Brentford, aimed at creating a permanent football team to utilize a new recreation ground.
“The Brentford Football And Sports Club” (1901): Around 1901, the club was registered as a limited liability company under this expanded name during the Southern League era.
“The Bees” (Most common nickname, 1894–present): This nickname originated during the 1894/95 season due to a media misinterpretation of a school chant, “Buck up Bs!” (referring to Borough Road College), which was misheard as “Buck up bees!”.
“The Bs” (Original nickname, 1894–1895): This was the very first variation of the nickname, taken from the initials of the Borough Road College students’ chant before it evolved into “Bees”.
1889–1904: Various local grounds (Clifden Road, Benns Field, Shotters Field, Cross Roads, York Road).
1904–2020: Griffin Park.
2020–present: Gtech Community Stadium.
