The professional Crystal Palace Football Club was founded on 10 September 1905 by the Crystal Palace Company. While the club officially recognizes its professional formation in 1905, research has linked the club to an earlier amateur team from 1861, though the modern entity formed in 1905.
Crystal Palace Football Club has had a remarkably consistent name since its professional founding in 1905, though it has operated with different nicknames and had distinct eras of amateur predecessors.

The Glaziers (1905–1973): This nickname was chosen due to the club’s association with the Crystal Palace exhibition building in South London. Which was largely made of glass.
The Eagles (1973–present): In 1973, manager Malcolm Allison rebranded the club, changing the nickname to “The Eagles” to project a more aggressive image, inspired by Portuguese club Benfica.
They has had four primary home grounds throughout their history: the Crystal Palace stadium (1905–1915), the Herne Hill Velodrome (1915–1917), the Croydon Common Athletic Ground (1917–1924), and their long-term home, Selhurst Park (1924–present). The club also used a small ground called “The Nest” (1918–1924).
